Clear rules, fair terms.

By accessing and using the ATAS (Alliance for Transformative AI Systems) website and any services we make available, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

ATAS conducts original AI research and development — focused on Kinyarwanda language technology, low-resource language modeling, and contextual AI for Rwanda — and builds products that put that research to work, including AcademiaPlus.

Current status

• Our research programs and this website are active now
• AcademiaPlus is still in development and is not yet publicly available — these terms will apply to it once it launches, alongside any additional terms specific to that product

We aim to develop and describe our services responsibly and in line with applicable Rwandan law.

You agree to use our website and services lawfully and in good faith. You agree not to:

• Use our services to develop harmful AI systems
• Violate any applicable law or regulation
• Infringe on our or anyone else's intellectual property rights
• Attempt unauthorized access to our systems
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation when contacting us or participating in our research

All intellectual property rights in ATAS's website, software, documentation, datasets, models, and research outputs belong to ATAS or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from them without our explicit written permission.

Any open-source components we use are governed by their own licenses. Research collaborations are governed by separate agreements that will be defined directly with each partner.

We handle personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and Rwanda's data protection law (Law N° 058/2021 Relating to the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy).

• We don't share your personal information with third parties without consent, except where required by law
• You can access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data at any time — see our Privacy Policy for how

Research involving people — for example, our field data-collection work — requires informed consent from participants. We explain to participants what data we're collecting and why before we collect it.

If you take part in one of our research programs, any findings we publish based on that participation will be anonymized.

Our website and services are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, and ATAS is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of them.

Where any paid service exists, our total liability for a claim relating to it will not exceed the amount you paid us for that service in the twelve months before the claim. This limitation applies to the fullest extent permitted by law.

ATAS may suspend or restrict access to its website or services for violations of these terms, with or without notice. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — such as intellectual property and limitation of liability — remain in effect afterward.

You can stop using our services at any time. If you'd like us to delete data associated with you, contact us at privacy@atas.rw.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Rwanda. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Rwandan courts.

If you're accessing our services from outside Rwanda, local laws in your jurisdiction may also apply to you.
